Preaching can be a lonely thing. Week in and week out you prepare a sermon alone in your office, delivery the sermon, then start all over again. What if I told you there are some easy ways to make the process not so lonely?
Why is this important? When we do no collaboration whatsoever we can become isolated very fast. We might lose our creative inspiration and get into a nasty rut. We might become so discouraged that it leads to burn out or being put out.
So here are some things you can do very easily to increase healthy collaboration in your sermon preparation process:
Build a Sermon Planning Team
If you have a staff or a teaching team then this is a pretty easy process. You can gather in October or November to plan out the entire preaching calendar for the following year. You can also use the resources of this team to help you with individual sermons and ideas. If you have no staff or teaching team building this team will be more difficult but just try to do it naturally. Ask your worship leader and other team members who are invested weekly in the sermon preparation process. You can even add a member who gives good and constructive feedback to your preaching. Whoever you put on this sermon planning team is going to be vital to how well you collaborate in your sermon prep.
Meet Other Preachers in your Community to Talk Shop
Another easy way to further collaborate in your sermon prep is to get into the heart of the other preachers in your area. This is a powerful way to share ideas. You could even share a sermon series or two together as community churches. I would recommend intentionally connecting with other preachers in your community for the purpose of sermon collaboration at least once a year.
Share your Sermons and Ideas Online.
Here at RookiePreacher we have created a Facebook group which you can link to at the end of this article that is a great place to share some ideas or to ask for ideas. There are other online groups you can do this as well. The great thing about the internet is you are immediately connected to people across the world who are trying to accomplish the same thing as you-preparing heart changing sermons.
