5 Things Every Godly Leader Should Do in 2018

I am always trying to improve as a leader and so I wanted to provide the five main things I am working on to be a more Godly leader this year and why you should be doing them as well. You can get lots of great leadership advice in principles here at RookiePreacher and lots other places and I hope in 2018 you will look to holistically improve your leadership.

Today we want to look specifically at ways we can be a more Godly leader in 2018:

Improve Prayer and Study Life

Every Christian wants to do this to some extent in my experience. As a leader you should be consistently improving your time with God. Whether you need to come up with better practices to concentrate in that time or actually set apart more time. Put a plan in place to improve your prayer life and study life in 2018.

Love Your Family Better

You love your family right? Anytime I see a leader treat his or her family poorly or neglects them they are immediately disqaulified for Godly leadership in my mind. In 2018 set out to love your family better. Maybe you need to set up better boundaries around your time to protect family time, maybe you need to change your attitude towards your spouse or kids. Whatever you struggle with when it comes to your family put a plan in place to be better this year.

Find New Ways to Love People Around You

All Godly leader must love their neighbors. But it is something we all struggle with. Do you have a plan in place to love your neighbors better this year? What are you going to do this year that you did not do last year?

Be a Better Encourager

People need encouragement. Whether it is your family, your staff, your volunteers, your church members, other pastors and leaders, neighbors… you get it: everyone needs encouragement. How are you going to be a better encourager in 2018? Because this is one of the most practical ways to lead and help people.

Be a Better Example

Lead by example is the old adage and it will ring true forever. Do you ask your family to do things you do not do? Do you tell your staff to live in a way you do not? Do you preach God’s Word but do not live it? We all struggle with some aspect of leading by example. Let’s be a better example in 2018.
