Earlier this year I wrote I Am Adding These “Old School” Tools in 2017 here at RookiePreacher. I wanted to provide an update on if these tools were helping my productivity or not so far in 2017.
The answer is a resounding yes! I am so happy that I tried this out this year because it has really helped me to be more productive.
Update on Desk Calendar
Adding the “old school” desk calendar has helped me out a lot this year. When I am at my desk I can get a broad sense of everything I have scheduled and that I need to do for the day, week, and month. Of course, I am still utilizing my google calendar as well when I am on the go or out of the office. The traditional desk calendar has been a great “new” resource for me this year.
Update on Physical Bible
Before my commitment this year to use some older tools I had not regularly used a physical Bible in my study and preparation for years. The Bible App, Bible Gateway, and Bible Hub are great resources I can utilize anywhere. But, the use of a physical Bible has worked wonders on my study and preparation time; especially my personal study time. It has led me to a place of fewer distractions and easier note taking. This is a tool I am glad I added back into my life.
Update on Sticky Notes
I have not fully integrated sticky notes into my productivity yet but I have used it to leave other members of the staff messages when they are out and the need was not urgent.
Update on Legal Pad
The “old school” legal pad has become a huge part of my productivity process. I use it to track our sermon series calendar, I use it to make notes for our weekly sermon recap interview we post on Facebook, and I use it to sketch out large scale projects from scratch.
I am so happy with the addition of the desk calendar and legal pad that they are actually the two closest and most visible resources when I am at my desk.
